Lufthansa 747 Leaving Washington Dulles

,

Lufthansa for many years has been flying their 747-8 and 400 out of Washington Dulles. When international flights were able to return to the United States after covid, the 747 was an ideal plane to fly due to the large seating capacity needed to handle the increase in international travel. This was the case for Lufthansa flight LH418 and 419 that was going to and from Washington Dulles. The 747-8 which is the biggest version of the 747 seen below can hold 364 passengers: 8 first class, 80 business class, 32 premium economy, and 244 economy.

Starting March 31st 2024, Lufthansa will be replacing the 747 with the A340-300/600. When the aircraft changes to the A340 there will be only one flight a day that will be operated by Lufthansa from Frankfurt. In the summer, there will be two flights a day operated by Lufthansa from Frankfurt and both will be operated by the A340. The A340-600 will be coming in more often than the A340-300. The A340-600 is a big quad jet that can hold 297 passengers: 8 first class, 44 business class, 32 premium economy, and 213 economy. The A340-300 is also a quad jet but is a smaller version than the 600. The 300 can hold 279 passengers: 30 business class, 28 premium economy, and 221 economy. As of now there is no date on when the 747 will come back to Washington Dulles.

  1. Jet Photo of the Week – DMV Flights Avatar

[…] This week’s jet photo of the week is the Lufthansa 747-8i right next to the full moon. This photo was taken on November 25th, 2023. This Lufthansa 747 is in the old Lufthansa livery and is registered D-ABYD. Only two out of the nineteen 747-8i’s of Lufthansa are in the new livery. This photo is very cool as it is a full moon and it’s the ‘Queen of the Skies’. Also this photo is now going to be very rare as Dulles won’t be getting the Lufthansa 747 for a while starting in the first half of 2024.
